The Christian View of Obama
The Blessings of God Should Benefit Every Living Creature

If the Bible says that God is concerned with the peace and well-being of all creatures --- all of the world's churches should be demonstrating a commitment to these teachings. But, conservative Christians in America seem to be actively combating President Obama's efforts to provide the citizens of this country with the basics of life, such as shelter, food, healthcare, and the education and jobs necessary for a civilized society.

These are the moral responsibilities of a civilized society --- to offer mercy to people in need. Moses and the prophets all proposed ways to correct and prevent the problems of poverty by redistributing a society's wealth in a manner that employs the people and supports the community. Jesus also warned us all against the travesties of the money changers who recently caused the collapse of Wall Street.

But, ultra conservatives seem to be ignoring the teachings of the Bible in their blind commitment to the unrestrained capitalism still supported by the Republican Party. Now, they are actually accusing President Obama of socialism because of his plans to tax the rich and a commitment to programs that actually benefit the rest of us. Where were they --- the past eight years?

The radicals' fear of totalitarian governments is totally justified, but it was the Bush Administration's attacks on personal liberties, including religious freedoms, that exemplified the terrors of totalitarianism.

The blind, unthinking support from radical conservatives enabled Bush to enact policies that are actually harmful to themselves and pushed Americans into the financial disasters that we are now experiencing. We are still squandering $$ billions on inexcusable wars while failing to take care of our own people.

Christian extremists who base their beliefs on blind, unchallenged faith are ignoring the real teachings of the Bible. It's time for them to reread it once again and put its lessons into practice.

True Christians should be supporting the Obama administration's efforts on their behalf. And we should all be coming together to support a United America and a vision of a government that supports the rights and the needs of the people.
